Sentilla Co-Founder Wins European CTO Award for Innovation in Data Centres

Sentilla CTO Joe Polastre Presented with European CTO Award for Innovation in Data Centres at BroadGroup Data Centres Europe 2010

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 29, 2010 - Sentilla® Corporation, provider of demand-side energy management solutions for data centers, today announced that co-founder and chief technology officer (CTO) Dr. Joe Polastre has been awarded the 2010 European CTO Award for Innovation in Data Centres by BroadGroup. Dr. Polastre accepted the award on behalf of Sentilla Corporation, which has developed the most valuable and innovative energy management solutions in the data center industry. In January 2009, Sentilla launched the Sentilla Energy Manager™, an award winning, novel, enterprise management platform that analyzes energy use down to application and equipment levels to create actionable profiles of an organization’s energy footprint. The resulting intelligence enables companies to reduce energy consumption, lower operating costs, decrease carbon emissions and extend the life of their data centers.

The BroadGroup Data Centres Europe 2010 Awards are presented based upon the collective consideration of a panel of judges and are awarded to both individuals and companies that have demonstrated best-in-class, or, contributed significantly to the campaign of continuous improvement within the data center industry. The independent panel of judges was comprised of experts in the data center industry.

“The data center continues to attract focus on energy, and presently the industry is challenged at the levels of telemetry deployed and their ability to demonstrate environmental performance,” commented Philip Low, managing director of BroadGroup, the consulting firm and organizers of the event. “Sentilla demonstrated innovation to the judges through its submission, demonstrating its understanding of the growing issues and how the toolset application supports corporations and user communities to detail, trend and importantly respond, ensuring their data center environments meet with best-in-class operability conditions.”

“I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of Sentilla, as it speaks to the innovative and pioneering features that are found only in Sentilla Energy Manager, such as the Sentilla Inference Engine, Sentilla Analysis Engine and Sentilla Virtual Meters,” said Dr. Polastre. “This award is further validation of the market need for Sentilla’s technology, and demonstrates how Sentilla transforms data center management to reduce costs and defer costly capital upgrades.”

The Sentilla Energy Manager family of products, released in early 2009 and most recently updated with Version 3.0, was developed to offer a non-invasive, software-only solution for managing energy in the data center. Sentilla Energy Manager Version 3.0 is the industry's first-ever software-only enterprise management solution for reliably tracking power utilization of every single asset in the data center, including both metered and unmetered equipment. Sentilla's technology provides data center customers a means to improve operations by bridging the IT-facility gap. Sentilla’s powerful software empowers customers to optimize computing and energy capacity, reduce costs and mitigate risk, without any disruption in operations.

During the BroadGroup Data Centres Europe 2010 Conference, Dr. Polastre participated in a panel entitled “Reducing Data Centre Power Costs” with representatives from Cisco, IBM and APC. Dr. Polastre spoke about how the data center industry needs to benchmark the energy profile of IT applications in order to drive data center efficiency, and correspondingly take a holistic view of the data center’s operations.
